These last four days in Hurghada on the Red Sea have been wonderful. The weather is spectacular. Always sunny, in fact I haven’t even seen a cloud since I arrived. Today is my last day here and I went on a snorkeling adventure. I love snorkeling. I am never happier then when I am in the water and now more than ever. The freedom I feel is exhilarating. I don’t feel the tightness and weight of the expanders in my chest. I don’t feel awkward or self conscious. Being in the water is liberating.
The snorkeling today was magnificent. The water is crystal clear, 30C and full of beautiful fish and coral. I even saw several Morey Eels. We went out to an island and spent the day traveling to different reefs for an hour at a time. It was some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever done…and I’ve done a lot!
Tomorrow is an early start. I’ll be picked up at 6am to drive almost 4 hours to Luxor to board the four day Nile Cruise. I am really looking forward to this leg of my adventure. I am reading Agatha Christie’s “Death on the Nile,” a gift from my brother. I am imagining a time when women dressed for dinner and men wouldn’t be caught dead without a dinner jacket. I am going to immerse myself in the magic of the Nile and experience the wonder and magnitude of the extraordinary sights that Egypt serves up daily. This is a very special place and this trip has had such a healing effect on me. Two weeks without doctor’s appointments will do that…but this adventure has been so much more. I am blessed to be healthy enough to experience all that Egypt has to offer. Shukran…thank you!
