Let’s face it. This is a battle and a long one at that. But I’ve stepped into the ring and am prepared to go as many rounds as it takes until I am awarded the title SURVIVOR
I like to surround myself with positive energy and positive people. And more so now than any other time in my life. There is no point moaning and complaining about having cancer. It is what it is. What is important is having a plan, staying focused and remaining as optimistic as possible.
Personally I use humour to help me get through the day. I always have. I’ve been making jokes to help break the tension and fear that others feel when I tell them I have to have a double mastectomy.
“Hey, just think, after all this is done, I will have the perkiest boobs of anyone my age”, I quipped to someone who kept saying how sorry they were that I was losing my breasts.
“I won’t need to wear a life jacket anymore ’cause I’ll have built in floatation devices”….you get the picture. Of course I’m not making light of losing my breasts. It scares the crap out of me and I know I will be very anxious about the first time I have to look down to a blank space where they once were. But I choose to see the positive rather than the negative. I choose to laugh rather than mope and I choose to share this journey with anyone and everyone who wants to take the ride with me.
