I miss my Dad

Today and tomorrow were always special for my Dad and I as today is my birthday and tomorrow is his. We’ve always celebrated our bdays together. Two strong Scorpios with a special connection.

Tomorrow would have been my dad’s 90th birthday; a number he desperately wanted to make. Unfortunately he passed earlier this year at 89.

At my father’s celebration of life gathering it brought me to tears seeing and listening to all the people who came to honour my dad. So many wonderful stories were exchanged. There was a lot of laughter and yes more than a few tears. He had made an impact in so may lives. He was generous, kind, funny, handsome and fiercely loyal.

At the gravesite, I was asked to speak. I knew I would be a puddle of tears if I tried to “wing it”; so I wrote a poem in order to keep me focused. I so wanted to express how much my Dad meant to me.

Daddy’s Girl

On October 27th

as leaves fell from the tree

A baby was born…

And that baby was ME!

What’s the significance

Why is this great?

Because my Dad’s birthday

was October 28!

And so began

A bond so strong

A dad and his daughter

That’ll forever belong

My dad always made time

to cuddle and play

To read to and teach me

And hear about my day

Our house was filled with music

Each and every day

We all really loved it

When he’d sit down to play

Beethoven and Chopin

Were not all that he knew

He played pop and jazz

And showtunes too!

My Dad was many things

In the time that we’d spend

He was my chauffer, my mentor

My guardian, my friend

Above all he loved his family

Wife Marlene and son Mark

His grandaughter Amelia

And Ourea…the spark

Ourea gave him a burst

Of strength and energy

You could see it in his face

When she sat on his knee

Dad led a life of kindness

He was genereous and true

He loved talking and joking

with everyone he knew

Consider yourself lucky

if he called you a friend

Because he loved and valued you

right to the end

To be his first born and daughter

I am so incredibly glad

He was a very special man

And such a great Dad!

No one else

could ever take his place

He was my cheerleader, my protector

My rock, my safe place

I carry his wisdom and love

In all that I do

For all that you gave me Dad

I sure do love you

And although I can

no longer talk to you

I’ll always be your daughter

And your little Patti-poo

I MISS YOU DAD xoxoxo
