A Reflection on Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As October comes to an end I want to take inventory of what it all means. Once you’ve had breast cancer, every month is an “awareness ” month. A day doesn’t go by without the harsh reality of what cancer does to those it touches.

I am one of the lucky ones who survived. Yes I have the scars to show I’ve battled and won. And although they may be shocking and unattractive I celebrate the fact that scars only form on the living!

A few days ago, I celebrated my birthday as a guest on a podcast. I am always willing and honored to share my journey. There are so many who feel alone and isolated in their battle and perhaps my sharing can aid and reassure them that they are not alone.

For those who would like to help women in need please visit http://www.afterbreastcancer.ca. your support can make such a difference for women who can’t afford the necessities after undergoing a mastectomy. I am so proud to be an ambassador for this wonderful charity.

October may be over but the need is present every day of every month
